Nikko Toshogu Shrine is located in Yamauchi, Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, and is the head shrine of Toshogu Shrine and the main worship god is Toshogu Daidenken (Tokugawa Ieyasu). The Toshogu Shrine, dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo Shogunate, is rich in historical monuments. The buildings of Toshogu Shrine are exquisitely carved and splendid, and they are located in the mountains of Nikko, built against the mountains, and are full of momentum. Among them, the Japanese-style Meiyangmon Gate and the Chinese-style Karamon Gate are representative buildings. The design aesthetic also interprets different metaphors, "sleeping cat": the carved sleeping cat has two flying sparrows on its back. It is said that this symbiotic coexistence between animals symbolises the peaceful future of the newly unified Japan, and Toshogu Shrine's most famous sculpture, the "Three No-Saru". The first one is "missing", the second one is "silent", and the third one is "not smelling", and every corner of Toshogu Palace has a story behind it, which is very interesting. In December 1999, the "Shrines and Temples of Nikko", which includes Nikko Toshogu Shrine, was designated as a World Heritage Site.
